JS-50 QuikLock Mount

JS-50 MX, JS-50 WX and JS-50 WSC mounting

The JS-50 QuikLock mount uses dovetails to accurately position the scanning head. The scan heads are calibrated along with the QuickLock mount, which allows swapping a given scan head without needing to recalibrate the system. A spring-loaded clamp plate locks the scanner head in position. Installing or removing the scanner head only requires a 3/16 hex driver, and doesn't involve loosening fasteners that can get easily lost.

3/16 hex driver

While common in the US, allen keys or hex keys of the size 3/16" are not common in other parts of the world. There is no metric equivalent to this size, so JoeScan recommend purchasing a 3/16" driver and keeping it at the installation site for easy access to the lock mechanism. Do not try to use a metric driver to avoid damaging the screw head.

The mounting plate has a recess for the scan head bracket with a dovetail machined into one side, and a clamp plate on the other. The clamp plate positions the scan head bracket against the dovetails and locks the bracket in place. Two ball-nose spring plungers engage slots on the scan head bracket and retain the mounting bracket while you slide the scan head into position.

The bracket has three dovetails that fit into recesses in the mounting plate. Two of the dovetails engage with a dovetail machined in the mounting plate, and the clamp plate engages the third dovetail.

Installation

The process for installing a JS-50 scan head is shown below:

  1. Align the dovetails on the scanner mounting bracket with the mounting plate.

  2. Insert the scanner mounting bracket into the mounting plate.

  3. Slide the scanner to the end of the mounting plate.

  4. Tighten the screw on the clamp plate to align and lock the scanner head.

Mounting Alternatives

The JS-50 MX model has additional mounting holes on the "non-lid" side of the body. This allows for a direct mounting to the scan frame.

Alternative Mounts

If the factory installed QuikLock mount does not work for your installation (e.g. space constraints), it is also possible to remove the bracket from the ScanHead without loss of seal. Remove the two tamper proof torx 6-lobe screws with a suitable driver to access the mounting holes on the back of the unit. As the ScanHeads are calibrated with respect to the mount, units thusly modified will no longer be usable as hot-swaps without loss of alignment.

Please contact JoeScan for dimensions of the mounting holes.
